Dr. Eric Lee, MD, MA
Director of Interventional Pain, Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Lee graduated from Yale University where he played football. After his sports career, he completed his medical school training at Boston University earning both his MD & MA. He then went on to complete his residency at NYU Langone Medical Center at the prestigious Rusk Institute. He obtained his fellowship in Pain Medicine at New York University. Dr. Lee is Double Board Certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He has extensive patient experience working with sports injuries, and as a former athlete, he understands the importance of returning his patients to maximum functional capacity. He is continually involved in cutting edge research and clinical trials. He has a special interest in advanced interventional techniques and minimally invasive spinal procedures. He has helped advance the field in neuromodulation, radiofrequency ablation, and regenerative therapies such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).

Dr. Kevin Lum, MD
Medical Director of Occupational Health, Emergency Medicine
Dr. Lum was born and raised in Hawaii where he graduated from Kamehameha Schools. Dr. Lum has been intrigued by the Sciences since childhood, and decided early on to dedicate his career to helping his community by attending medical school and becoming a physician.
Dr. Lum pursued his medical degree at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii where he completed his studies in 1997. Always looking for excitement and high energy, Dr. Lum completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at Summa Health System in Ohio.
Through his training, Dr. Lum remained clear about his desire to return home and began practicing Emergency Medicine at Kuakini Medical Center. Over the span of two decades, Dr. Lum held several Physician Leadership positions from 2000 to 2019. His many professional and administrative accomplishments landed him at the helm of the ‘Ekahi Health Lifestyle Management Programs as Medical Director from 2016 to 2020.
In 2020, Dr. Lum took his talents to the healthcare insurance industry. As the Medical Director of MDX Hawaii, he led a large team through innovative implementation of clinical services and related reimbursement for Medicare beneficiaries and their providers.
In 2022, Dr. Lum joined WorkStar as Medical Director in charge of an expanding team of Providers and staff and overseeing WorkStar’s first extension across multiple clinic sites. His leadership and steadfast commitment to serving Hawaii’s people exemplifies our company motto: Guardians of the Injured!
Dr. Carl Hodel, MD
Emergency Medicine
What do Dr. Carl Hodel and the legendary Daniel Boone have in common? They both hail from Boonville, Missouri, a small farming community which further secured its place in history as the start of the fabled Lewis & Clark expedition!
After high school, Dr. Hodel attended the University of Chicago and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Physics. The lure of warmer weather and lifestyle of the West Coast brought him to California. He pursued a Ph.D. in Biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley and was then accepted into the prestigious University of California, San Francisco Medical School. In 1974 he completed his degree and entered the Queen’s Medical Center internship program where he fulfilled a rotating Med Surgical program in 1975.
He began his career as an Emergency Medicine physician with Hawaii Emergency Physicians Association and went on to become Board Certified in Emergency Medicine in 1984. He joined the team of Emergency Room physicians at Kaiser Permanente in 1976 and continued there until he retired in 2007. Dr. Hodel joined Work Star in November 2009.
Dr. Hodel is happily married with two children and enjoys surfing, skiing, trail riding, horses, and pets.
Emily Brewer, DNP, APRN-Rx, FNP-C
Director of Clinical Affairs, Nurse Practitioner
After completing her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Texas Tech University, Emily moved to Hawaii in 2007. Emily then went on a medical relief mission in Haiti that transformed her life and made her want to be able to help even more people, which she felt she could do best as a Nurse Practitioner. Always hard working and dedicated, Emily graduated from Hawaii Pacific University’s Nurse Practitioner program and The University of Hawaii’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program as the Class Valedictorian of each. As a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, she is passionate about the holistic care of her patients. Emily’s interest in physical medicine began at an early age and continued through her college years running track and playing volleyball for Texas Tech University. Emily enjoys educating her patients on the role of exercise and weight management in preventative health care.
Emily also has a strong interest in women’s health and wellness. She is an adjunct faculty for Hawai’i Pacific University and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Emily enjoys food, travel, and exercise, especially if it is in the Hawaiian sun.

Kaidden Kelly, DMSc, PA-C, CAQ-PSY
Physician Assistant
Kaidden is a Hilo native and Kamehameha Schools graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies from Portland State University and worked in family and sleep medicine before pursuing a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. As a Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship recipient, he is dedicated to serving his community and began his career in psychiatry and family medicine before joining Kaloko Pain Center in 2019. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Psychiatry and specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for chronic pain patients with psychiatric disorders. Kaidden also earned a Doctor of Medical Science Degree from the University of Lynchburg and completed a family medicine fellowship. In his free time, he enjoys CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, and spending time with family and pets.

Scott Blair, PA-C
Physician Assistant
Scott was born and raised in southern California where he was active in numerous sports and outdoor activities. After playing baseball, basketball and soccer growing up, he ended up running track as a Division I athlete at the University of Colorado and Northern Arizona University. Throughout college he suffered multiple injuries and became interested in medicine and orthopedic treatments. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical science with a minor in chemistry from Northern Arizona University in 2012.
He went on to work in physical therapy in California before completing his Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Western University of Health Sciences in 2017. After completing orthopedic rotations throughout Los Angeles and Las Vegas, he spent the next 4.5 years treating non-operative orthopedic ailments with trigger point injections, joint injections, and non-narcotic medications. In 2021, he and his wife decided to move to Hawaii with their dog to be closer to family in Honolulu. When he is not at WorkStar, Scott spends time going to the beach, hiking, and golfing.

Erwin Danzer, FNP
Nurse Practitioner
Erwin Danzer, a Honolulu native, earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hawaii Pacific University and his Master of Nursing (FNP) from the University of Hawaii, graduating with honors and being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau. He served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force from 2011 to 2013 before working in the ICU at North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas. With a strong interest in Pain Management, he became a Pain Management Nurse Practitioner at Nevada Comprehensive Pain Center and completed advanced training in pain management, including certification in Chronic Opioid Prescription from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Now returning to Maui, he is eager to contribute to the Maui Pain Clinic and support the local community. In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling and outdoor activities.

Jessica Goza, MSN, APRN, AGPCNP-C
Nurse Practitioner
A California native, developed a profound interest in healthcare through her studies in global health and infectious disease. She graduated from UCLA in 2008 with a degree in international studies. Following her graduation, Jessica served as a health extension volunteer in Senegal with the United States Peace Corps, where she gained invaluable experience in community health initiatives.
Upon her return to the United States, Jessica pursued further education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nursing. During her time at Emory, she was honored to be one of the first two recipients of the Paul D. Coverdell Fellowship in 2015, recognizing her dedication to underserved communities. Additionally, she was selected for the prestigious VA Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP) program through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which provided her with advanced training and experience in veteran healthcare.
Jessica graduated in 2016 with a Master of Science in Nursing and was awarded the Excellence in Collaboration award for her outstanding work at the refugee health clinic, where she demonstrated a commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork and community engagement.

Toni Ballard, NP-BC
Nurse Practitioner
Toni grew up in the Southwest, including Southern California, Las Vegas, and Northern Arizona. A former gymnast, cheerleader, and lifeguard, her sports injuries shifted her focus from engineering to healthcare. She earned an Associate of Nursing and an Associate of Arts from Yavapai College in 2013, then a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University while working as an RN. After six years in the Emergency Department and ICU, she pursued a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University, graduating in the top 10% of her class. Toni has worked in Concierge Medicine, Aesthetics, Urology, and Occupational Health. Since relocating to Hawaii in 2020, she enjoys rock climbing, free diving, and beach outings with her family.

Terri Pacheco, FNP
Nurse Practitioner
Terri was born and raised on Oahu where she graduated from Pearl City High School. Her interest in the medical field developed during a summer internship at Leahi Hospital, caring for Hansen’s Disease patients. The positive feedback she received caring for patients, hearing their life stories, and working closely with other healthcare professionals altered the course of her life.
After high school, she graduated from University of Hawaii at Manoa earning a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, and enjoyed a successful career caring for patients’ oral health for 15 years.
She returned to the University of Hawaii to pursue a degree in Nursing. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) then continued to graduate with honors earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), specializing in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), with a minor in Public Health.
Terri is happily married with three children. She is involved in a variety of community service activities and is an active member of the Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Her passion is to provide the optimum care for patients’ health utilizing evidence-based research, experience + collaboration, industry best practices, and technological advances, while acknowledging/addressing each patient’s physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being.

Robert Canfield, FNP-BC
Nurse Practitioner
Robert was born in Boulder, Colorado. Growing up he moved around, living in Holland, Colorado, New Mexico, California, Mexico City, Michigan and finally Hawaii. He left home at 14 to attend Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. A medical emergency in high school landed him in an ICU. After 4 weeks in the hospital an interest in healing began to grow. After graduating from UH-Manoa he worked as a youth counselor at Hale Kipa, a residential treatment center for at risk teens. During that time he met his future wife and continued at UHM as an unclassified grad student taking his prerequisites for medical school. When the time came to choose between Boston and Colorado he decided not to uproot his newly growing family and instead attended UH Manoa and got his MSN and became a nurse practitioner specializing in Family Practice.
Robert has worked at Rehab Hospital of the Pacific specializing in the ortho and stroke unit, for the City and County of Honolulu as the City Medical Specialist, with Waikiki Health Center providing outreach medical care to the homeless, at Tripler Army Medical Center in the GI department and most recently at a very busy internal medicine practice.
Robert is married with three daughters and four grandchildren. He lives in East Oahu with his wife, youngest daughter, three cats and two dogs. His hobbies include playing music and surfing and he loves to travel with his family.
